In June 2010, the Program for the Integrated and Sustainable Development of the EPA Mosaic in the Bahia (PDIS), supported by the Odebrecht Foundation, celebrated earning the United Nations Public Service Award. During the time, it was the only action recognized in Latin America and the Caribbean, winning in the category “Improving Citizen Participation in Public Decision-Making Processes through Innovative Mechanisms.”
One year later, PDIS is one of the highlights of the book Good Practices and Innovations in Public Governance. Under the coordination of the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Department, the publication offers an overview of the award winners between 2003 and 2011.
In the compilation, PDIS is described as an initiative that has presented tangible results in terms of eradicating poverty and social exclusion and establishing a more favorable scenario for the practice of citizenship. It also points out that the program promotes quality education, contributing toward social mobilization and economic development based on family farming and aquaculture.
